A Semiconductor Leader’s Implementation of Information Protection with Microsoft Purview

Background
A leading manufacturer of semiconductors recently undertook a project to implement Information Protection. The customer identified their strategy around implementing Information Protection using the Microsoft stack.
Challenges
The customer’s team was new to the product stack and implementing an Information Protection strategy. They were looking for Netwoven to provide support in the following areas:
- Identify Protection Use Cases
- Identify Content Marking Requirements
- Assist Content Marking Stylization in Office Documents
- Provide documentation on Classification Labels
- Assist with Scanning Repositories using AIP Scanners
Solution
As this was a consulting engagement, Netwoven initially conducted a due diligence workshop to understand the strategy behind the Information Protection implementation. The engagement was intended as a Proof of Concept for the leadership team to be able to showcase the ease of implementation of Purview.
Benefits
The consulting engagement helped guide the customer in successfully completing the following:
- Strategy for Defining Sensitivity Labels – Provided guidance to define distinct categories for data classification and thereby the sensitivity labels. Recommended the Label Taxonomy.
- Configuring AIP Scanner – Suggested necessary configuration settings to scan relevant repositories both on-premises as well as online.
- Content Marking - Implemented Content Marking for Header, Footer and Watermark for MS Word and PowerPoint. Developed stylizations to customer’s need.
- Documentation – Documentation of best practices for Label and Classification.
- PowerShell Scripts – Developed and delivered PowerShell Scripts to automate Content Marking and Stylizations.
Conclusion
Netwoven successfully provided the customer with necessary subject matter expertise to consider while developing an Information Protection Strategy focused around Data Classification, Sensitivity Labeling, Configuring MPIP Scanners and Content Marking.
