Data governance strategy with PoC created just in 3 months for a world leading electronic test tools manufacturing company having a turnover of over $5.3 Billion

The Challenge

Company wanted to establish a global data governance program to use data to its strategic advantage. Currently due to lack of proper governance, there were quality issues, ownership issues, and security issues.

The Solution

Company embarked on a data governance program and contracted with Netwoven to help define a data governance strategy and use Microsoft Purview to implement it since they owned Microsoft Purview.
Netwoven interviewed several stakeholders to define an overall data strategy that included recommendations on establishing the following:

• Mission and Vision
• Data governance council
• Data Domain Model
• Policies and Procedures
• Phased roadmap

The data strategy pillar consisted of the following:

• Data foundation
• Data trust
• Reporting, Analytics, and Data Science
• Master Data Management

Customer was already using Azure for their Business Intelligence system. Netwoven identified certain source systems (Oracle, Dynamics 365), subset of data from Azure Data Lake Gen 2, Synapse Tables, and Power BI visualization reports. Netwoven worked with the customer to develop a Proof Of Concept to create all the components in Microsoft Purview to gain access to:

• Data catalog
• Metrics
• Lineage
• Experts

The strategy and Proof Of Concept enabled the customer to move towards implementation of a full-fledged data governance program that will reap significant benefits to their strategic decision making.
