Moving to Microsoft 365 from Jive?
Choose the best and secure method of migration for your organization. It depends on a number of factors, like what is the number of “Jive Places” you want to move? What is the size and amount of content you need to move? What are the content types you want to move? Do you want to move all the versions of your documents? And so on. Check our blog on “Plan your Jive Migration”, it will help you to take decision and to plan your migration accordingly, including taking an inventory and assessment of your data, which is one of the most important key to a successful migration.
And the next big question is how secure the migration process is! And how fast it is?
To improve the migration performance and security Netwoven uses app-based authentication for migrating content from Jive to SharePoint online, Microsoft 365 Groups (Documents & News) and Jive Personal content to OneDrive for Business,
This provides greater security and reduces the potential of Microsoft throttling.
Why app authentication is secure over service account authentication?
- This Migrator App is created in client’s environment with the help of the Client’s IT team and has its own client id & client secret.
- Then the App is registered with full control only to those site collections where migration takes place.
- App authentication uses the Open Authorization (OAuth) 2.0 protocol and does not add to the set of user authentication or sign-on protocols, such as WS-Federation.
App authentication replaces the previous Microsoft 365 authentication with service account, which has been subject to increased throttling by Microsoft.
Can Microsoft turn off the throttle to help me with migration? – No
Throttling is in place to protect the reliability and availability of the service. Throttling rules cannot be disabled or suspended. Opening a support ticket will not lift throttle.

As per Microsoft Netwoven uses “Best practices to handle throttling”
MS Recommendation | Netwoven’s Action Points |
Reduce the number of operations per request & Reduce the frequency of calls | Our Migration App uses the best practice to reduce the number of requests during daytime or business hours. Schedule the SharePoint and OneDrive migrations during nighttime and weekend hours within the region. And handles all the throttling errors directly through the app. |
Decorate your traffic so we know who you are | “Traffic is undecorated if there’s no AppID/AppTitle and User Agent string in CSOM or REST API call to SharePoint Online. “ Our Migration requests are decorated http traffic with Netwoven name and unique application Id and Title. |
Leverage the Retry-After HTTP header | The Retry-After HTTP header is the fastest way to handle throttling. Because SharePoint Online dynamically determines the right time to try again. Too many retries increases the throttling time and it works against the usage limits. Our Migration App follows the Retry-After HTTP header to ensure the shortest delay. |
